The teaser trailer for Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Benicio del Toro, and a talking raccoon with the voice of Bradley Cooper is set to premiere tonight on The Jimmy Kimmel Show. Until that epic moment (and you know it will be EPIC) arrives, feel free to psych yourself out for this flick by checking a teaser of the teaser trailer (I normally hate when studios do this, but this one is pretty f*cking awesome), a trio of hi-res stills, and sneak peeks at the upcoming Hasbro toy line and Funko POP! Vinyl figures (courtesy of last weekend’s Toy Fair). Click the pic to check out the full story…
To say Marvel Studios has kicked the marketing machine for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER into high gear is an understatement. They’ve taken the machine, rebuilt it from the ground up with parts designed specifically to appeal to the geek inside of all of us, put the machine back together, filled it with enough high octane geek fuel to keep it running till time to get everyone psyched the f*ck out for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and they’ve launched it at the masses with little to no regard as to how much awesome they can actually take.
Don’t believe me? I dare you to click the pic and check out the plethora of WINTER SOLDIER goodies I’ve procured for you and not totally geek out. I dare you. I dare you because it can’t be done. It just can’t. Even non-Cap fans will/should agree this flick looks AMAZING. Cap (Chris Evans) kicking ass for freedom, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) dropping quips and doing her sexy pose/kill thing, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Alexander Pierce (ROBERT REDFORD!) going full ‘70s political paranoia thriller, Winter Soldier (Um… Is it cool to reveal he’s played by Sebastian Stan?) tearing EVERYONE a new one, Falcon (Anthony Mackie) rocking double semi-automatics and soaring through the sky using robo-wings, a fleet of helicarriers, war in the streets, fist fights in elevators, flashbacks to WWII featuring the Howling Commandos, a possible post-credits stinger that sets up THE AVENGERS 2 with the first appearance of [SPOILER ALERT!!!] Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), and plot twists and turns so shocking they will resonate through the entire Marvel Studios film universe including AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. What’s not to love?!?
So yeah… the first trailer for the upcoming sci-fi epic JUPITER ASCENDING starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis is really f*cking weird. I think that’s pretty evidence from the screencap above. From the glow-y bullet time to the zero gravity gun-fu above the Chicago skyline to the obvious JOHN CARTER homages to Tatum’s elf ears, neck tat, guy-liner, and blonde goatee, JUPITER ASCENDING looks to be oozing weirdness out of every one of its weird pores.
But you know what, I have 100% faith in the Wachowski Starship. Say what you will about THE MATRIX RELOADED and THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS, but those two delivered the goods with THE MATRIX, SPEED RACER, BOUND, and CLOUD ATLAS. Those flicks are bonafide cult classics.
You know what? Screw the “cult” label. Those flicks are bonafide classics. Genre-bending masterworks made by a directorial duo that doesn’t nearly get the respect they deserve. I’m excited to see they do next, no matter how f*cking weird it may be.
