Jennifer Jason Leigh And Bella Thorne To Headline Franck Khalhoun’s AMITYVILLE

The Wrap is reporting Jennifer Jason Leigh (SINGLE WHITE FEMALE), Cameron Monaghan (VAMPIRE ACADEMY), and Bella Thorne (HOME INVASION) have been tapped by Blumhouse and Dimension Films to headline MANIAC director Franck Khalfoun’s upcoming reboot of the AMITYVILLE franchise.

Developed as a “found footage” pic titled THE AMITYVILLE HORROR: THE LOST TAPES, Khalfoun has ditched the gimmick and initial story which involved an ambitious TV news intern and a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers in favor more traditional yarn about a single mother who moves her three children into the Amityville house where they soon begin to learn of its dark history.

Lionsgate To Split DIVERGENT Franchise Finale, ALLEGIANT, Into Two Films

In a move that will come as a surprise to absolutely no one, Lionsgate has announced ALLEGIANT, the film adaptation of the final book of Veronica Roth’s DIVERGENT trilogy, will be split into two films. The first installment – rumored to be titled, I sh*t you not, DIVERGENT: ALLEGIANT PART 1 – will hit theaters on March 18th, 2016, one week after Universal’s WARCRAFT. The second will release one year later on March 24th.

I get why Lionsgate is doing this. The hip thing to do nowadays is to split the final installment of film franchises in two so the studio doubles the box office returns and fans get to spend more time in the universe. It worked for HARRY POTTER, THE HUNGER GAMES, and TWILIGHT, it’ll likely work here.

Variety has scored a first look at Matt Ryan as the titular character of NBC’s upcoming supernatural drama CONSTANTINE and …it’s not bad. Not bad at all. Ryan definitely looks more like his DC/Vertigo comic counterpart than Keanu Reeves in the 2005 feature film …but neither holds a candle to Castiel on SUPERNATURAL. Mischa Collins, lack of British accent aside, is the living embodiment of John Constantine, working-class magician, occult detective, con man. But that’s neither here nor there. Ryan is playing the character and will continue doing so if the pilot – from David S. Goyer (THE DARK KNIGHT), Neil Marshall (GAME OF THRONES), and Daniel Cerone (DEXTER) – ends up going to series.

The First Trailer For Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Has Arrived! Plus, 65 Hi-Res Screencaps!!

The wait is over! Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for writer/director James Gunn’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY online and …it’s AWESOME!! Seriously, the only word I am able to conjure up at the moment is awesome. AWESOME.

Okay, I really can’t just drop an “AWESOME!” and call it a day so here’s some more in-depth fanwanking. Not only is the quality action and spectacle fanboys and girls have come to expect from Marvel Studios present and accounted for, but so is Gunn’s off-kilter brand of humor (see SUPER and SLITHER), style (in two and a half minutes, Gunn manages to give gentle nods to THE FIFTH ELEMENT, THE ICE PIRATES, TITAN AE, FIREFLY, FARSCAPE, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, THE A-TEAM, and STAR WARS), and dialogue (“What a bunch of a-holes!”). The marketing guys aren’t even attempting to low-ball that GOTG isn’t your average blockbuster. I like that. You should too.

To heavily paraphrase the tagline from Richard Donner’s SUPERMAN: “You’ll Believe Andy From PARKS AND REC, An MMA Fighter, Green-Skinned Uhura, A Heavily Armed Raccoon, And A Sentient Tree Can Kick Ass.
