MAN OF STEEL follows the Last Son of Krypton on his epic journey to become mankind's shinning beacon of hope for a brighter future. Whovians! Don your fezzes, grab some Jammie Dodgers, and ready for change because Matt Smith is exiting DOCTOR WHO following the 50th anniversary special (set to air November 23rd) and the annual Christmas special.

No word yet who is going to be brought in to replace Smith -- who will be making his US big screen debut opposite Eva Mendes, Christina Hendricks, and Saoirse Ronan in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER later this year -- but UK bookmaker William Hill has already placed the odds in favor of Russell Tovey (10/1), Rupert Grint (10/1), and David Harewood (12/1). Take that as you will.

Smith delivered the following message to fans via the BBC:

Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show. I’m incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realize all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years.

Having Steven Moffat as showrunner write such varied, funny, mind-bending and brilliant scripts has been one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges of my career. It’s been a privilege and a treat to work with Steven, he’s a good friend and will continue to shape a brilliant world for the Doctor.

The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I've never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable. Dan Harmon is heading back to Greendale.

Almost a year to the day after Sony kicked Harmon off COMMUNITY for reasons never fully disclosed but heavily hinted at (Harmon has since admitted he difficult to work with and that his very public feud with star Chevy Chase didn’t endear him to the suits at NBC), he announced Friday via his Twitter that he’ll be returning as showrunner for the fifth season.

Harmon back means COMMUNITY will hopefully revert back to something worth watching and something I feel sorry for. I mean, seriously, NBC’s surprise decision to renew the show for a fifth season was met with confusion rather than celebration. I blame Harmon’s replacements Moses Port and David Guarascio and their decision to reduce the show into a pale shadow of what once was.

Oh sure, the duo delivered a couple of decent eps (“Intro To Knots” and “Intro To Felt Surrogacy” were actually quite good) and I’ll admit it was pretty clever how they wrote Chase out of the show after he quit but the rest of it was a jumbled mess. Too many abandoned subplots (What happened to Abed’s girlfriend?), dumb storylines (Changnesia), lame duck spoofs (The Hunger-Dean Games? REALLY?), boring eps (“Conventions Of Space And Time” and “Introduction To Finality” should’ve been SOOOO much better), and missing characters (Where the hell did Duncan, Vicki, Leonard, Fat Neil, Magnitude, Andre, Garrett, and the entire AC repair school disappear to?).

Long story short, let’s all thank Joel McHale for whatever he did that resulted in Harmon’s return and let’s celebrate by oogling pics and vids of COMMUNITY hotties Alison Brie (courtesy of Esquire and Speakeasy) and Gillian Jacobs (courtesy of Sharp).

Liongate CEO Jon Feltheimer revealed Friday morning to Deadline that Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, and Milla Jovovich have entered “advanced negotiations” for unspecified roles in THE EXPENDABLES 3. Filming is set to begin this August with Patrick Hughes (RED HILL) at the helm.

I have only one thing to say about this…

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White and her daughter Carrie. Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson, but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell, regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

CARRIE comes to theaters October 18th, 2013 and stars Chloe Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Gabriella Wilde, Michelle Nolden, Portia Doubleday, Alex Russell, Samantha Weinstein. The film is directed by Kimberly Peirce.

THR is reporting Universal and producer Marc Shmuger are teaming up to reboot TIMECOP, the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme sci-fi actioner about a federal agent who travels through time battling criminals and corrupt politicians trying to alter the course of history.

Now for the bad news as if news of another unnecessary reboot wasn’t bad enough: JVCD is not expected to be involved with this project in any way. Not to be a whiny fanboy but TIMECOP will NOT work without JVCD. At all. If you don’t believe me, just check out the short-lived TIMECOP series or the DTV sequel TIMECOP 2: THE BERLIN DECISION to see exactly how shitty TIMECOP can be without the “Muscles From Brussels”.

At the very least, I hope Universal wises up and gives JCVD a little cameo. Considering his recent work in THE EXPENDABLES 2 and UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING, I’d say he’s earned at least that. Maybe they could cast him as a higher up at the agency or even as the bad guy. Hell, give him the Bruce McGill role from the original and kill him off twenty minutes in. A surprise kill, ala Sam Jackson in DEEP BLUE SEA, could give this unnecessary reboot just enough edge to warrant its existence.

A new trailer and behind-the-scenes featurette for Antoine Fuqua’s OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN starring Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart has dropped and …um, what do you mean this is for Roland Emmerich’s WHITE HOUSE DOWN starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx? Oops. Honest mistake. Not to mention an easy one. I mean, seriously, this looks exactly like that and that looks exactly like this and …irk. This is the VOLCANO and DANTE’S PEAK situation all over again. DEEP IMPACT and ARMAGEDDON. TOMBSTONE and WYATT EARP. MIRROR MIRROR and SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN. THE PRESTIGE and THE ILLUSIONIST. WITHOUT LIMITS and PREFONTAINE. TURNER AND HOOCH and K-9. You get my point.

To be fair, what I’ve seen of WHD so far has been pretty good. The inevitable PG-13 rating will likely prevent WHD from being as crazy gory as OHF was but Emmerich trading in blood for sh*t blowing up real good is okay. Buckets of blood and a high body count aren’t necessary for an action epic to work. That stuff is nice …but not necessary.

Plus, I’m digging that C-Tates is channeling John McClane. I’m not sure if it’s the punchlines (Special Agent Todd better watch his back!), the dirty white tank top (old school DIE HARD McClane, not new school A GOOD DAY TO DIE WHILE ON VACATION McClane), the hostage who happens to be a family member (a precocious daughter played by Joey King from OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL), the wise-cracking sidekick (Jamie Foxx is no Sam Jackson or Reginald VelJohnson but since he’s playing THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES I guess things even out), the insurmountable odds to which his character must battle against (no reveal of ethnicity in the vids below but it’s safe to say the baddies are either domestic or North Koreans like in OLYMPUS) or the fact is character is actually named John (a little too on the nose with that) but something about what’s below just works for me.

Let’s just hope that something is one of the things listed above and not the fact MAGIC MIKE has been playing on a continuous loop in my head for the last few months. Oh C-Tates, you so dreamy.

USELESS KNOWLEDGE: WHITE HOUSE DOWN marks the fourth time director Roland Emmerich has blown up the White House on the big screen. INDEPENDENCE DAY, THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, and 2012 were the previous three.

Broadcast Now is reporting Sony Pictures Television hasn’t given up on their TV adaptation of BEVERLY HILLS COP despite CBS rejecting it for being “too retro”. The pilot -- which was directed by MEN IN BLACK helmer Barry Sonnenfeld -- is currently being shopped around to other networks, both foreign and domestic.

The idea here is that if none of the major US networks pick COP up then Sony will bring it overseas to a network like AXN or Global TV. That’ll guarantee at least one season which can then bring back to the States and sell to a US network. Confusing step-up, I know, but it’s something that’s worked for other film-to-TV adaptations like THE FIRM and HANNIBAL and it’ll probably work with this.

At least, I hope it works. The idea of a BEVERLY HILLS COP series is pretty interesting. Yeah, I know a network series won’t have any of the salty language and nudie bits that the films had …but is this really a bad thing? I don’t think so. As long as the visuals are exciting (MEN IN BLACK director Barry Sonnenfeld helmed the pilot, Jerry Bruckheimer is producing) writing edgy (having Shawn Ryan, the creator of THE SHIELD, on board guarantees it should be), the lead solid (Brandon T. Jackson is, in my opinion, an excellent choice to play Axel Foley’s son), and the supporting cast funny (Christine Lahti and Kevin Pollak are regulars, original COPs Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold will clock in cameos every so often), I think this could really connect with audiences. Worst case scenario is that it flops hard and pushes Hollywood to actually make BEVERLY HILLS COP 4.

Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige has revealed to EW that the studio has reacquired the film rights to BLADE, GHOST RIDER, and THE PUNISHER.

Here’s what Feige had to say:

“So Punisher, Ghost Rider, … Blade, all those characters are back. They all have potential, but I think we need to find the right time.”

"Whenever a character comes back to us, it's usually because the other studios don't want to make the movies anymore - and that usually means the [previous] movies may not have been particularly well-received. They all have potential, but we're not going to say 'We got it back - make it.'”

Considering this trio and DAREDEVIL (the rights to whom recently reverted from Fox to Marvel Studios) are some of the most violent guys in the Marvel universe, I can see why Feige is taking his time. No one wants to see these guys watered down or saddled with yet another lame adaptation. Time and respect is what these characters need.

Plus, I’m not any of them would really fit into the current Marvel Cinematic Universe. I mean, seriously, could you imagine Ghost Rider popping up in THE AVENGERS 2? How about Daredevil or Blade? What about The Punisher?!? None of them would really work within that construct.

What needs to happen is a Marvel Knights Cinematic Universe. Let “Phase Two” kick along with the PG-13 antics of IRON MAN 3, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and THE AVENGERS 2. Then maybe while “Phase Three” is going on with ANT-MAN, DOCTOR STRANGE, and whatever other new heroes are introduced, Marvel could go R with a “Knights” universe consisting of faithful but moderately budgeted adaptations (somewhere between 30-50mil) of DAREDEVIL, THE PUNISHER, BLADE, and GHOST RIDER. They could even let it exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe …just somewhere around the edges of it. Make references to the bigger stories without actually being involved in them. Saavy?

Only thing holding a “Knights” universe back is the fact Marvel Studios is partnered with Disney and they don’t do R. Or maybe they would if it was a sure thing like a Marvel movie? It’s a possibility.

Lots of fanboy rambling going on here but the gist of this story is that four very edgy characters have made their way back home. Let us all be happy about this because it isn’t likely to happen many more times. Most of the big sells like X-MEN, FANTASTIC FOUR, and SPIDER-MAN are firmly entrenched at their respective studios.

I’m pretty late with this, but here’s me telling you that Entertainment Weekly is reporting ABC has given a series order to Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. It’ll air Tuesdays at 8pm starting next season. You’ll find a new plot synopsis and three trailers for it below. Feel free to geek out appropriately.

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.
