Film Bites: Check Out The First Trailer For Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’d prefer to know as little as possible about Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED before seeing it. This is the way I treat all of QT’s film. I’ve always felt this way and probably always will. Might have something to do with RESERVOIR DOGS, PULP FICTION, JACKIE BROWN, KILL BILL and INGLORIOUS BASTERDS being five of my favorite movies of all-time. That earns the guy a lifetime of cred in my book. And that cred earns me going in fresh to any and all movies he directs so I can be truly be taken in by his work having not been previously spoiled.
That having been said, the first trailer for DJANGO UNCHAINED is pretty great. Finally seeing it in motion has alleviated most, if not all, of the WILD WILD WEST 2 suspicions I had. Jamie Foxx is 100% badass as Django (“The D is silent”), Christoph Waltz looks he’s going to deliver yet another iconic performance, Leonardo DiCaprio exudes oily charm as the lead baddie, and …holy hell, is that Franco Nero in that last shot? Old-school Django passes the torch to the new-school Django? That’s wicked cool.
Only gripe I have is the silly blue outfit Foxx is sporting towards the end. Why, oh why, would QT opt to put a character as badass as Django in an outfit made famous by Austin Powers?
PLOT SYNOPSIS: Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles - dead or alive. Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South's most wanted criminals with Django by his side.
Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago. Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of "Candyland," an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...
