I don’t get why Sam Raimi’s OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL exists. Yeah, the trailer, poster, and pics Walt Disney Pictures premiered at the SDCC over the weekend are gorgeous …but what’s the point? James Franco is NO Frank Morgan, Rachel Weisz is NO Margaret Hamilton, Michelle Williams is NO Billie Burke, and CG trickery is NO substitute for real sets and real munchkins.
Many a talented filmmaker has attempted to recreate the magic conjured up by Judy Garland in 1939’s THE WIZARD OF OZ and all have failed. I expect Raimi will do the same.
