SDCC 2012: GODZILLA Is Coming!

I really need to get myself to Comic-Con next year. Reporting about it from the outside looking in is just too weird …and a little annoying …and slightly bothersome to me because I don’t dig copying and pasting whole articles from other sites because I wasn’t there and really can’t comment on what was shown or revealed because I wasn’t there. Next year, I’m going to Comic-Con. Or maybe the year after that. Definitely sometime in the next two or three years.

Back on point: GODZILLA. We’ve known for quite some time now that Gareth Edwards (director of MONSTERS) was working on a reboot of the big G for Legendary Pictures. What wasn’t known was that Legendary was going to sneak premiere a sweet new teaser poster (seen above) and trailer for the flick at the tail end of the panel for Guillermo Del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM.

The trailer isn’t available online (yet) but I09 did manage to write up a fairly detailed description of what was shown. I cribbed some of the more interesting bits (feel free to click HERE to check out the full summary) and included them below. Enjoy.

We see huge black clouds, massive smoke, and slowly it clears away revealing a ruined city. There are hundreds of crashed cars and rubble — buildings are broken in half and people are crawling over the sideways ruins of buildings. Some buildings have had massive chunks torn out of the middle of them, like when a cartoon character runs through a wall.

A voiceover says: "We knew the world would not be the same. A few people cried, most people were silent. I remember things — lines from the end of scripture. Vishnu takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.'"

We see the side of something huge, like a mountain. We only slowly realize it's actually a monster. There is something like lava running down the side of it. And then there are huge CLAWS. The monster is lying on its side. There is a huge Godzilla scream! Like a massive trumpet sounding!

And then Godzilla is rampaging through the city, trashing buildings with its huge claw. Buildings collapse. THOOM. A giant arm sweeps across the city and everything crashes. We see its massive spiky back and then the trademark face. The monster opens its mouth and SCREAMS.
