I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I want to know as little as possible about Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED before seeing it. This is the way I treat all of Tarantino’s films. I try to watch the trailers for his pics as few times as possible, do my best to casually glance at whatever pics are released and move on, and I definitely don’t read whatever leaked scripts hit the net.
My reasons for doing this are twofold:
1) I have my own weird f*cking movie rules and laws I abide by. Three of them involve the films of Tarantino. Other ones include making sure to watch John Carpenter’s THE FOG only on April 21st, always referring to the song at the end of REAL GENIUS as “The Popcorn Song” despite knowing it’s “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Tears For Fears, using the phrase “And know you know…” in daily conversation to see who’ll finish it with “…and knowing is half the battle!”, boycotting any and all DVD/Blu-Ray release that doesn’t feature the original soundtrack, and buying each and every new edition of SERENITY that Universal churns out on DVD, Blu-Ray, UMD, whatever.
2) RESERVOIR DOGS, PULP FICTION, JACKIE BROWN, INGLORIOUS BASTERDS, and KILL BILL are five of my all-time favorite films. Those films have earned Tarantino a lifetime of unquestioned cred in my book. Cred that earns him a first day ticket purchase from me for whatever he may direct from now until whenever he retires.
That having been said, The Weinstein Company and Columbia have released a new trailer, five character posters, and thirteen official movie stills for DJANGO UNCHAINED. You can scope out the trailer above (which is mostly recycled material with a sneak peek at Jonah Hill’s cameo and a few new shots/lines) and the posters (featuring Jamie Foxx as Django, Christoph Waltz as Dr. King Schultz, Kerry Washington as Broomhilda, Leonardo DiCaprio as Calvin Candie, and Samuel L. Jackson as Candie's house slave Stephen) and pics (which include our first look at Don Johnson as Spencer Gordon “Big Daddy” Bennett and Walter Goggins as Billy Crash) below. Enjoy.
Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.
Co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Franco Nero, Samuel L. Jackson, M.C. Gainey, Walton Goggins, Garrett Dillahunt, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, and Tom Savini, DJANGO UNCHAINED is set to ride into theaters on December 25th.
