Review: MISS SLOANE / BLEED FOR THIS

Willing to bend the rules for her clients, Elizabeth Sloane (Jessica Chastain) remains one of the most sought-after lobbyists in Washington, D.C. When asked to help oppose a bill that imposes regulations on firearms, she instead joins a scrappy boutique firm that represents the backers of the law. Her defiant stance and determination to win now makes her the target of powerful new enemies who threaten her career and the people she cares about.

The script for MISS SLOANE was discovered from a query letter by the writer Jonathan Perera's manager in Spring 2014, and further developed and exposed to the market in early 2015. The unrepresented screenwriter was living in Asia at the time and was attempting to solicit industry reps over the Internet. In less than one year, the spec script was acquired, attracted an Oscar-nominated director and actress, procured financing and distribution, and was put on a progress-to-production track. (IMDB)

Vinny "The Pazmanian Devil" Pazienza (Miles Teller), a local Providence boxer, shoots to stardom after winning two world title fights. After a near-fatal car accident leaves him with a broken neck, he is told he may never walk again. Against all odds and doctor's orders, renowned trainer Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart) agrees to help Vinny return to the ring just a year after the accident for what could be the last fight of his life. Based on a true story.

BLEED FOR THIS was filmed in 24 days on a budget of six million dollars, according to an interview with writer/director Ben Younger on KCRW's The Treatment.
