Review: BEAUTY AND THE BEAST / THE BELKO EXPERIMENT / KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD

Belle (Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast (Dan Stevens) in its castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.

Ryan Gosling was offered the role of the Beast, but turned it down to appear in LA LA LAND instead. Emma Watson was offered the lead role in that film, but turned it down to star in this one. (IMDB)

An ordinary day at the office becomes a horrific quest for survival when 80 employees at the Belko Corp. in Bogotá, Colombia, learn that they are pawns in a deadly game. Trapped inside their building, a voice over an intercom tells the frightened staffers that two workers must be killed within 30 minutes. When another ultimatum follows, friends become enemies and new alliances take shape, as only the strongest will remain alive at the end.

James Gunn was originally set to direct this film from his screenplay. However, when it was time to begin, Gunn was going through a divorce and withdrew, deciding he didn't want to spend several months working on such a violent film. He later said that he was surprised the movie was moving forward with Greg McLean as the new director. He was happy that he hadn't been asked again to direct, and looked forward to seeing how McLean brought his script to the big screen. (IMDB)

After the murder of his father, young Arthur's power-hungry uncle Vortigern seizes control of the crown. Charlie Hunnam had lost 20 pounds for the last season of SONS OF ANARCHY. During auditions, director Guy Ritchie was very bothered by his look, though he liked his performance, and asked him four times during the process about his poor physique. Hunnam said that when Ritchie brought up the fourth time, he told Ritchie, "Look, dude, you keep bringing this up, the physicality. It's obviously your primary concern. So if you want to do away with all this auditioning bollocks, I'll fucking fight those other two dudes. I know who they are. You can bring them both in here. I'll fight them both. The one who walks out the door gets the job." Hunnam won the role. (IMDB)
