Review: ALIEN COVENANT / EVERYTHING EVERYTHING / ROUGH NIGHT

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, members of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think to be an uncharted paradise. While there, they meet David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. The mysterious world soon turns dark and dangerous when a hostile alien life-form forces the crew into a deadly fight for survival.

Unlike David, Walter speaks with an American accent. While this was no doubt done in the film to help distinguish the two characters for the audience, in-universe it could possibly be explained by the two synthetics different origins-David was a unique model created personally by Peter Weyland (who was British) as a son and successor, whereas Walter is a mass-produced commercial model. Maddy (Amandla Stenberg) is a smart, curious and imaginative 18-year-old who is unable to leave the protection of the hermetically-sealed environment within her house because of an illness. Olly (Nick Robinson) is the boy next door who won't let that stop them from being together. Gazing through windows and talking only through texts, Maddy and Olly form a deep bond that leads them to risk everything to be together, even if it means losing everything.

There is a scene in EVERYTHING EVERYTHING where an astronaut is sitting on a bar stool in a diner that Maddy created. This scene is a reference to the famous 1942 painting "Nighthawks" by American artist Edward Hopper. (IMDB)

Jess (Scarlett Johansson) is an engaged politician who reunites with three of her college friends for a wild bachelorette weekend in Miami. The night of hard partying soon takes a hilariously dark turn when a male stripper accidentally dies at their beach house. Amid the craziness of trying to cover it up, the women ultimately find themselves becoming closer when it matters most.

The film was originally entitled ROCK THAT BODY, before being renamed ROUGH NIGHT. (IMDB)
