When the green band trailer for COP OUT (formerly A COUPLE OF DICKS) hit a couple of weeks ago, I wasn’t all that impressed. Sure, there were a couple of funny lines, but the overall trailer seemed like a bit of a bust. And being that I am a huge Kevin Smith fan (I even love JERSEY GIRL, sue me) and this is his big foray into mainstream filmmaking (studio pic with an actual budget and a script that he didn’t write), the lack of funny in the green band had me worried. It also didn’t help that the TV trailers for this flick are absolute shit, showcasing what seems to be all the non-funny bits of the movie.

Thankfully, MySpace (of all places) has rectified this and has put out a sweet new red band trailer for COP OUT. Why Warner didn’t do this in the first place, I’ll never know, but this trailer actually delivers on all levels. Hell, this trailer actually makes the movie feel like a Kevin Smith movie, which means it’s got tons of foul language, off-color jokes and dick references. Yay! And on top of all that, it actually delivers the punchline in the whole “knock, knock” gag, which is something that the green band definitely couldn’t do.

Don’t forget, COP OUT hits theaters on February 26th. Let’s all remind Kevin Smith that his brand of humor is needed in Hollywood. Dude seems depressed after the failure of ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO.
