Does a film about middle-aged men getting together during the summer and reminiscing about the “good old days” sound interesting to you? Probably not. How about if I add that three of the guys involved are Jeremy Piven, Thomas Jane and Rob Lowe? That might bring up the interest level a bit, eh? And if I were to mention that Mark Pellington, director ARLINGTON ROAD and THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES was at the helm, that might spark your interest. How about if I told you that Sasha Grey was in this flick?

Listening now, aren’t you? Well, turns out that the lovely Grey has picked her next mainstream project and it’s going to be the BIG CHILL-esque I MELT WITH YOU. Grey is going to be playing a character named “Raven” who convinces one of the guys that the only way that nirvana can be achieved is through death. Um…okay. Sounds interesting.

Grey is definitely an interesting anomaly amongst porn stars. She doesn’t seem interested in going the easy route of simply delivering one-note performances in slasher films and horror pics (see Jenna Jameson in ZOMBIE STRIPPERS or Chasey Lain in EVIL BREED), Grey actually wants people to know she can act. Her work in THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE is great and while I wasn’t a big fan of SMASH CUT, she did well with what she was given. Should be interesting to see how she holds up against the likes of Piven, Jane and Lowe. Let’s just hope that Pellington doesn’t opt for the easy route with her character and turns her into a sex-pot.

Speaking of I MELT WITH YOU, here’s a “proof of concept” trailer that Pellington used to get financing for the picture. Kinda interesting, kinda strange, at least it shows that he’s going to try to do something different with this already well-worn material.
