Considering PREDATORS has only made 46mil domestic (that's four weeks in wide release and against a 40mil budget), one would be safe to think that Fox isn’t terribly thrilled with their recent studio team-up with director Robert Rodriguez. One would also be incorrect in thinking that because the LA Times is reporting that RR is in final negotiations to direct DEADPOOL. No, it’s not a remake of the 1988 Dirty Harry flick, but rather a spin-off from WOLVERINE starring Ryan Reynolds.

Of course, nothing is set in stone yet and RR has about 20 different projects on his plate at the moment. At the very least, if he does sign to direct, DEADPOOL will film AFTER he completes SPY KIDS 4 for the Weinstein Company and everything might change if MACHETE tanks at the box office (MACHETE was produced by Fox). Even if RR doesn’t sign, the DEADPOOL script is done (penned by ZOMBIELAND writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick), so Fox will hire somebody in the near future.

I’d like to say I’m intrigued by the idea of RR directing DEADPOOL, but I gotta be honest, I’d rather see him helm his long-in-development MADMAN flick or even SIN CITY 2. Love RR, but this seems like an ill fit.
