SDCC 2012: Marvel Teases THOR 2, IRON MAN 3, CAPTAIN AMERICA 2, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and ANT-MAN

Marvel Studios won this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. There may not have been an official contest or anything but they won. There’s no denying that. Marvel head honcho Kevin Fiege and company rode in high off the box office success of THE AVENGERS, trotted out tons of juicy info and sneak peeks about their upcoming releases, delivered a few high-profile surprises (Robert Downey Jr.’s epic entrance to the IRON MAN 3 panel being one), and pretty much Hulk-smashed the competition into the ground. DC and the rest of the panels never stood a chance.

Film Bites: Check Out A Super-Short Sneak Peek At THE AVENGERS

There’s about three and a half seconds of footage from THE AVENGERS snuggled away in the vid after the jump. Nothing spectacular, mostly just behind-the-scenes shots showcasing all the various members, but any official footage is good footage.

The rest is…well, a commercial for the upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER Blu-Ray and DVD release. Why am I posting this? Just because. No reason. Dug the movie, plan on buying it when it comes out and I think you should too. Do I really need more of a reason than that?

Film Bites: The Teaser For S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Phil Coulson’s First One-Shot Is Here!

Remember those rumors about Marvel Studios commissioning a pair of mini-films starring S.H.I.E.L.D agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg)? Well, the rumors are true and Marvel has released a teaser for the first one-shot, titled “The Consultant”, online. As far as I can tell, this is set before the events of THE INCREDIBLE HULK but after Nick Fury meets Tony Stark in the post-credits scene of IRON MAN.

Film Bites: Check Out The Teaser For THE AVENGERS Teaser Trailer

The following clip is a teaser of a teaser for THE AVENGERS that kinda spoils the last five minutes of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER in a very compressed way. Does that make sense? Um…probably not. Just like the fact that Paramount and Marvel Studios released this to the net mere days after Cap’s big screen debut. Can someone explain to me how spoiling the end of a movie that has been in theaters less than a week is a good idea?

Posterized: New CAPTAIN AMERICA Character Sheets Fully Reveal Hugo Weaving As Red Skull

With THOR finally starting to cool down at the box office, the time has come for Marvel Studios to focus on their other big summer pic CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. You might note that Marvel put all the marketing for Cap on hold while Thor burned up movie screen. Bit of a smart dumb move, if you ask me. On one hand, slowing down the Cap train allowed for Thor to take focus with audiences and let the film become a big hit. On the other, other genre pics like X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and TRANSFORMERS 3 have swooped in and stole some of Cap’s thunder.

Oh well, what’s done is done. Marvel is back on the CAPTAIN AMERICA marketing push again and what better way to muster up interest than by releasing a trio of character one-sheets including one that gives audiences their first clear look at the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving)?

New Hi-Res CAPTAIN AMERICA Pics Compliment The Super Bowl Teaser Trailer Quite Nicely

As if the Super Bowl teaser for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER wasn’t badass enough, Bleeding Cool went and found a slew of hi-res pics from this month’s issue of EMPIRE that bring even more coolness. Easily the crown jewel of the bunch is the full-on shot of Chris Evans in the suit. Love the fact that it feels real and is period appropriate (the flick is mostly set during WWII) while still kinda futuristic. Very cool.

Super Bowl 2011 Teaser Trailer Round-Up

To be completely honest, I watch the Super Bowl for the movie trailers. Not the game, not the standard commercials (which mostly seemed to degenerate to “Ow! My balls!” levels this year), but the uber-brief (most max out at 30 seconds) teasers for all the big movies that are hitting theaters this summer. Been doing this way since 1996 and I’ll probably do it till the day I die. Just figured you should know.

And now that is out of the way, here’s most of the big teasers that hit last Sunday with a tiny bit of commentary and a couple of still accenting some of the more interesting moments. Click on the pic to check out the trailers for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, THOR, COWBOYS AND ALIENS, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, SUPER 8, BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES and FAST FIVE…

Samuel L Jackson Has Confirmed Nick Fury Will Appear In THOR And CAPTAIN AMERICA

Despite the fact that both CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER and THOR wrapped filming months ago, Marvel is planning on shoehorning Nick Fury into both pictures.

Mind you, THOR is already sporting cameos from Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg), the Cosmic Cube (the MacGuffin in AMERICA) and CAPTAIN AMERICA is going to have an appearance by Howard Stark (Tony Stark’s dad previously portrayed by John Slattery and will now be played by Dominic Cooper), the earliest version of S.H.I.E.L.D, the Howling Commandos and a possible appearance by Bruce Banner (AKA Mark Ruffalo, AKA The Hulk). Guess Marvel didn’t learn any lessons by overcrowding IRON MAN 2, huh?

Anyways, Samuel L Jackson confirmed on Jimmy Fallon last night that he would be filming cameos for Marvel’s big summer duo sometime in the next couple of days and that the search is on for a lovely lady to play his sidekick for both cameos and in Joss Whedon‘s THE AVENGERS. I thought Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) was supposed to be his #1, but I guess she was busy.

First Look (Again): Chris Evans As CAPTAIN AMERICA – THE FIRST AVENGER

The following really isn’t really a news story, as it as more of an update to a story posted last week.

Remember that grainy EW pic of Chris Evans as Captain America? Well, Marvel fixed the grainy issue and dropped not one, but two, hi-res pics of Cap onto the internet for your viewing pleasure. The first one is obviously just a clearer look at the pic from last week, but the second one actually features a tiny bit of Cap action. Nothing too crazy, but cool nonetheless.

The most interesting thing about these pics is the commandos standing behind Cap. Guess I was too focused on Cap’s uniform when I first saw this pic, but now all I can focus on is those robo-commandos. Are they supposed to be the Howling Commandos? Or maybe The Invaders?

Or maybe they are some of Red Skull’s goons? They do seem to be surrounding Cap which would lead me to believe that they are bad guys, but I’d really like to know who they are. I mean, just check out that armor. Considering CAPTAIN AMERICA – THE FIRST AVENGER is set in the 40s, it is a little shocking to see almost Iron Man-esque levels of tech being used.

Massive CAPTAIN AMERICA – THE FIRST AVENGER News: The Cosmic Cube! Red Skull Concept Art! Teaser Trailer Delayed?

Tons of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER news hitting this week. I’m guessing this is mostly due to the fact that the first trailer is set to hit any day now, but more on that in a bit. The first bit of news I’d like to discuss involves the Ark Of The Cove…er, I mean, the Cosmic Cube.

That’s right, people. The above pic is Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull holding the almighty Cosmic Cube. Found the pic over at CHUD who found it in this month’s issue of SFX and what else is there to say? It’s a pretty cool pic of a pic and it’s a cube. Yay.

I’m guessing that the CG guys are gonna rub a little funk on this before the actual movie comes out. I mean, seriously, it’s just a white cube. Cap fans will know what it is (as will most true blue Marvel aficionados), but I’m not sure that the average moviegoer has any idea what they are looking at. To the uninitiated, this is simply a pic of Agent Smith (or Elrond, depending on your genre tastes) fixing to whip together some stew for his Nazi stormtroopers using a big-ass bouillon cube. I can almost hear him saying, “And I shall create the most powerful stew the world has ever seen!”.
