Minor release note here, but MGM’s redo of RED DAWN might be hitting theaters in 2011. Why might it be hitting theaters in 2011? Well, turns out the movie has been re-titled. Re-titled RED DAWN 2011. Oh, the originality, it hurts to see used well.
This bit of news comes to us from Moviehole and they don’t really have much more info than that. There’s no explanation as to how MGM is going to release this (a feat that seems impossible since they are currently in a whole mess of financial trouble), nor is there any word on whether or not it is finished. Last I’d heard, RED DAWN was currently at around 80% complete having been shut down when MGM went down. Maybe that was just a rumor?

Tons of Marvel announcements last weekend, so I’m going to bullet point all the major ones and there will be links at the end if you want to read all the fine details about each. Facts are, all of these bit of info can easily be summed up in a few lines, so why bother will all the filler? Let’s just cut to the chase and deliver the good stuff.

Is safe to finally talk openly about the after the credits scene from IRON MAN 2? You know, the one with Mjolnir (aka Thor’s Hammer) making an appearance? Well, if you haven’t seen IRON MAN 2, now you know to stick around after the credits. You’re welcome.
Oh, and speaking of Mjolnir, here’s a pic from THOR featuring the insanely buff Chris Hemsworth attempting to pull said hammer from a pillar of stone. Very cool shot, much cooler than the insane FLASH GORDON-esque pics that have been leaking out the last few weeks. Hopefully, this shot is more representative of the quality of the film than those candy-colored bits of insanity were.

Is it just me or is THOR shaping up to be the next FLASH GORDON?
That’s not a knock against the film, mind you, but rather a hint about where THOR might be heading tonally. GORDON is not everybody’s cup of tea. Matter of fact, if you have an aversion to high levels of camp and near-ungodly amounts of cheese, you’ll probably hate GORDON. On the other hand, if you appreciate it for what it is, you’ll love it.

Can somebody explain to me how the douchebags over at Entertainment Tonight scored the first look at THOR? I mean, really, is this how the fans need to be getting the first glimpse of Thor, Odin and Loki? Do we really need to suffer through nearly four minutes of pure worthless fluff in order to get to the good stuff (namely, brief glimpses of Thor in action, Loki brooding and Odin…well, being Odin)? More importantly, why does this piece end with our host (some Johnny Clownshoes who I could really care less about his name) harassing poor Natalie Portman about her opinion on Chris Hemworth’s pecs?

So, turns out that the week I decide to take off for various reasons (namely, my daughter graduating high school and the in-laws rolling into town for her graduation) ends up being one of the busier entertainment news weeks of the year. Dennis Hopper and Gary Coleman both passed away, PRINCE OF PERSIA and SEX IN THE CITY 2 both tanked at the box office, Tony Jaa up and quit acting to become a monk, Guillermo Del Toro bailed on THE HOBBIT and, oh yeah, the preproduction designs for Captain America AND Thor popped up online. Holy hell!

Previously thought to have been cast (Brian Blessed, reportedly), the role of Thor’s father, Odin, in the upcoming Kenneth Branagh adaptation of Marvel’s THOR is going to be occupied by Sir Anthony Hopkins.
