Batman To The Future! Christopher Nolan Talks DARK KNIGHT RISES Timeline

Ready for a teeny-tiny spoiler for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES that really isn’t much of a spoiler? Sure hope so because I’m about to drop one on you and walk away. That’s right, drop and walk. What are you gonna do about it?

But seriously, here’s an interesting little TDKR mini-spoiler from the mouth of director Christopher Nolan:

“It’s really all about finishing Batman and Bruce Wayne’s story. We left him in a very precarious place. Perhaps surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after The Dark Knight. So he’s an older Bruce Wayne; he’s not in a great state.”

Gotta love how Nolan nonchalantly says “perhaps surprisingly”. Dude knows that every fanboy and fangirl has been scouring every inch of the net for info about this flick for months now but he just naturally assumes we already knew that it was going to take place eight years after the events of THE DARK KNIGHT. Yeah, like we just knew that. Nobody, outside of maybe the cast and crew, knew that.

First Look: Anne Hathaway As Selina Kyle In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Dimension Films has released a new pic of Jessica Alba in SPY KIDS 4: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD and I’ve got to say that director Robert Rodriguez is really scraping the barrel with this one. I mean, seriously, did nobody notice that the fact that this is clearly a pic of Alba’s stunt double that her ride looks just like the Batpod from THE DARK KNIGHT? Can somebody say “lawsuit“? Get Warner‘s lawyers on the phone and…

waitasec. What do you mean this is the first official pic of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES? Are you sure? I thought the first sneak peek at her in costume would be more, I don’t know, Catwoman-y. Is that word? If not, it should be. Because it describes exactly what the very thing that this pic is lacking: Catwoman-y goodness.

You don’t have to thank me. Just enjoy the pic which is pretty good but reminds me a little of Psycho Mantis from the METAL GEAR series for some reason.

Anne Hathaway Confirms To Oprah That She’ll Be Catwoman In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (Didn’t We Already Know This?)

I thought it was already common knowledge that Anne Hathaway had been cast in THE DARK KNIGHTS RISES as Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman). I remember posting about it a couple of months ago and also remember reading a good deal of press concerning the announcement, so I really don’t get what the big deal is about her bringing up the subject of Catwoman on Oprah’s show is.

I guess there was some mystery as to whether or not Hathaway would actually be playing Catwoman in the flick or if she’d just be Selina Kyle and would be setting up Catwoman for a future installment? I honestly don’t know. I figured it was pretty much a done deal that she’d be in the flick as Selina who’d become Catwoman at some point. I mean, director Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale have both said that this is the last Bat-flick for them, so why set up a villain if there are no more sequels to be made after this one? Catwoman is in RISES and Hathaway is playing the part. End of story.

Either way, here’s Hathaway chatting it up with Oprah and she brings up RISES for a little bit. Like I said, this isn’t revelatory to me. But since every other movie blog and site is treating this as a major announcement, I figured I’d go ahead and post it. Besides, any excuse to post a pic of Hathaway is a good one and this is a moderately good excuse.

Zack Snyder’s SUPERMAN Reboot In Trouble? SUCKER PUNCH Not Testing Well? Guy Ritchie Taking Over XERXES? The Rumor Mill Explodes!

I’ve always found it interesting how the Hollywood popularity scale works. One week you’re up, the next you’re down and, if the winds are right, you might be completely out of favor in the space of a few days. This up-and-down process seems to be what is happening to director Zack Snyder.

A few months back, all the movie sites and blogs were abuzz at the announcement that Snyder would be helming Warner’s big budget SUPERMAN reboot. Word had it that producer Christopher Nolan (director of INCEPTION and THE DARK KNIGHT) had hand-picked Snyder from a list that included the likes of Darren Aronofsky, Tony Scott, Matt Reeves and Duncan Jones. All solid choices, but the guy who’d brought Warner 300 was the one who got the job.

And personally, I think Snyder is a solid choice. His visual style and ability to bring comic book sensibilities to the big screen is going to lend itself well to the SUPERMAN franchise.

However, not all is good in Snyder world. WATCHMEN was far from the hit that Warner had hoped it would be. His last film, the 3D kiddie CG epic LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS: THE OWLS OF GA’HOOLE, spectacularly underperformed and ended up being a huge black mark on Warner’s 2010 fiscal year. And his next, SUCKER PUNCH, is apparently not testing very well.

Henry Cavill Is Zack Snyder’s SUPERMAN

Brit nobody…er, I mean, actor Henry Cavill has been cast as the Man Of Steel in Zack Snyder’s upcoming SUPERMAN reboot. I guess I could’ve said he was cast as Superman in the SUPERMAN reboot, but I felt that was too many uses of Superman in one sentence. Shit, did I just use Superman three times in the last sentence? I did, didn’t I? Let’s just move along.

Variety broke the story and provided a nice little pull-quote too. Check out what Snyder had to say about Cavill’s casting below:

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen,” Snyder said in a statement. “I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

I’d like to say that Cavill is a solid choice and all, but I really can’t. Dude hasn’t done much in the way of good work. Oh sure, he’s not too bad on THE TUDORS and I’m guessing that is the basis point that Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan used to hire the guy. But have you seen BLOOD CREEK? How about TRISTAN AND ISODOLE? What about HELLRAISER: HELLWORLD? Let me save you some time and drop three mini-reviews for these pics: Awful. Boring. “What the hell were they thinking?”.

Rumor Mill: Robin Williams As Hugo Strange In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES?!?

I guess the recent announcement that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Catwoman and Tom Hardy is playing Bane in Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES wasn’t enough for some because that villain rumor mill is still churning. According to a random tweet over at BatmanOnFilm (I found the story over at Movieweb), they seem to believe that Robin Williams has been cast as Hugo Strange.

First off, I don’t buy it. Just a personal belief, but I think that Nolan has cast his villains and we already know who they are. We know Hathaway is Catwoman and Hardy is Bane. And honestly, I don’t know if I want a ton of villains in the next pic. Two seems like enough. More than that and the whole thing might get overcrowded. I might be wrong, but this is what I think and I’m sticking to it till proven otherwise.

My reasoning? This rumor seems to be combining a dozen random elements to form something that sounds halfway real. The Williams connection to this rumor is because he worked with Nolan about a decade ago on INSOMNIA. And, funny enough, Williams was one of the frontrunners for the Riddler role in BATMAN FOREVER back in the 90s. Matter of fact, he was pretty much all but cast in the role till Joel Schumacher saw Jim Carrey and went with him. In other words, Williams has been trying to get into the Bat-verse for quite some time.
