After a brief scare with the idea of him possibly directing a HAUNTED MANSION remake, Guillermo Del Toro has eased fan fear by confirming that his next directorial effort will the long-in-development AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. According to Deadline, the pic is being geared up as a big tentpole release that will be filmed and released in 3D. The real shocker here (and the possible reason that Universal greenlit a big budget adaptation of a HP Lovecraft work) is that James Cameron has come on-board to produce, oversee the 3D shoot and possibly lend his name to the marketing materials.

Didn’t see this this coming, but then again, I don’t think anyone did.
According to CHUD (via Comic-Con where the announcement was made), director Guillermo Del Toro is going to write and produce (not direct) a new film version of THE HAUNTED MANSION for Disney. That’s right, the guy who two months ago was going to direct THE HOBBIT is now remaking a fucking Eddie Murphy movie. What a waste.

MIMIC, despite being a cracking good horror pic, is actually quite different from what director Guillermo Del Toro intended. Differences, at the time, between him and Miramax forced the movie to be cut, reshot, and altered from it’s original intended version. But, word is now coming out that MIMIC is being “reconstructed” into it’s original form for a future DVD/BLU-RAY release.
