Film Bites: Check Out The Entire HARRY POTTER Film Saga In Sixty Seconds!

Don’t have 1200 minutes (or, to be more precise, 20 hours) of free time to waste watching the entire HARRY POTTER film series? No worries. Here’s a supremely silly and spoilerific vid that manages to squeeze most of the major plot points and moments of the Potter pics (save for Quidditch, Cedric Diggory, the Malfoy family, Bellatrix, Dobby, Gringots, the Order Of The Phoenix, the Half-Blood Prince and a few other choice bits) into sixty seconds. You’ve got a minute to waste, don’t you? Of course you do.

HARRY POTTER Director David Yates To Helm Big Screen DOCTOR WHO Reboot

Per Variety: HARRY POTTER director David Yates is teaming up with the BBC to turn its iconic sci-fi TV series DOCTOR WHO into a bigscreen franchise, Variety’s Adam Dawtrey exclusively reports from London. Yates, who directed the last four Potter films, told Variety that he is about to start work on developing the pic with Jane Tranter, BBC Worldwide’s L.A.-based exec VP of programming and production. “We’re looking at writers now,” Yates said. “We’re going to spend two to three years to get it right. … It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena.” Yates made clear that his movie adaptation would not follow on from the current TV series, but would take a completely fresh approach.

I’m not totally sure how to properly process the information above without typing the word “FU*K” over and over again until my fingers begin to bleed.

Why reboot now? Why reboot something as beloved as DOCTOR WHO? And, more importantly, why go full reboot? Why not just have current Doctor Matt Smith die and regenerate into a new Doctor Who whose adventures are exclusively on the big screen?

I don’t understand the rationale of abandoning fifty years of mythos and history (on the 50th anniversary of the series) in favor of a big budget adventure that will no doubt pale in comparison to what came before. Part of what makes this series so great (especially the more recent episodes) is the history between the characters and their stories. Abandoning all that in favor of some glitzy Hollywood-ized redo (you know there’s some exec out there just itching to see Johnny Depp in the lead) is an insult to the series, the characters and the entire fanbase.

Posterized: Eleven (!) New HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS Action Posters

Holy freaking heck, these new HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2 3D posters are nifty. Can July 15th get here any sooner? Well, apparently not, unless you have a time-tuner (or TARDIS). But, nonetheless, as long as they keep giving us clips and previews and posters, I’m happy as a fat kid with cake!

Now, as for these posters, I’m loving the attention to detail, and happy it’s not just plain same backgrounds for every character. I love that Voldy has his Nagini in the frame with him, Harry’s covered in blood, Draco is in the Room of Requirement, and Griphook has the sword of Gryffindor. That is what makes them nifty. And McGonagal? With the statues of Hogwarts surrounding her? I’m in love. And for twin-fans, Fred and George get their own poster! My happiness is bursting inside of me, though it would be even better if they differentiated them and showed the other ear. But I’m not complaining one bit, no I’m not!

Film Bites: The Cast Of HARRY POTTER Would Like To Have A Word With You

Topless Robot (via Empire) has a nice little video of the HARRY POTTER cast being asked to sum up their entire experience with the franchise in one word. Everybody plays it a little safe with their choices and a few go over the one word limit (Tom Felton, who played Draco, sails right on past it). Kinda feel sorry for Rupert Grint (Ron) a bit. Kid seems really happy to have been involved with the series and maybe a little scared because he now knows his entire career is going to be spent trying to outrun being labeled as “that kid who played Ron Weasley”. You can see the fear in his eyes. I call it the “Mark Hamill” look.

Film Bites: The Teaser For HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART II Is Here!

Probably going to catch flack for the following statement, but here goes: I’ve never read any of the HARRY POTTER books. My only knowledge from the series is based on the movies and the insane rambling that I sometimes have to endure when AlannaLynn goes off on a Potter tangent. Outside of that, my Potter knowledge is exactly zero. Do I plan I reading the books? Not really. Do I really want to? Nope.

Want to know why? I have no interest in the books because the movies have done just fine by me. Outside of a sub-par sixth installment (HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE), the films are quality entertainment of the highest degree and they are what I consider to be the franchise. Oh sure, the books sold millions upon millions of copies and are beloved worldwide. But I don’t think I could read the books and not think of these actors when reading the books and then that would remind me that there is a perfectly good series of movies I could be watching instead of reading and then I would abandon the books and simply opt for a seven (eight, if you count this last installment as a separate film) movie marathon. Whew! What a sentence. I’m sure Miss Couture, my 12th grade creative writing teacher, would have given me an F for thinking about using a sentence like that. No doubt.

Adamantium Men #29: DANIEL RADCLIFFE

I just got back from seeing HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART I, which I really enjoyed, and I figured it was time to do a Adamantium Man column on Daniel Radcliffe. Daniel has virtually grown up right in front of my eyes which has kept him off this list, it just felt naughty saying a kid was good looking. After all, Daniel is no longer the little boy audiences first saw in the original POTTER.

He has gone from lanky, weird looking, sorta-ok actor in a role that seemed to be way complicated and over his head to a now mature actor who owns his “Harry Potter” role. The only problem now is that Daniel will be forever typecast. Great as he is in the Potter pics, can you really see him as anything else? I like to call this the “Mark Hamill” syndrome.

Theatrical Review: HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART I (J’s Take)

This isn’t going to be the longest nor the most insightful review I’ve ever written, but let’s be honest here: You’ve probably already went and seen HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART I and you really don’t need me to tell you that it is pretty good. Actually, HALLOWS is better than pretty good, it is the second best of the POTTER sequels thus far (PRISONER OF AZKABAN is the best) and it does a mighty fine job of setting up the final confrontation between the kid with the scar and the pale dude with no nose.
