/film is reporting that Len Wiseman (director of LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD and UNDERWORLD, husband to Kate Beckinsale) has been tapped by Columbia to helm the TOTAL RECALL remake. I guess this is good or bad news depending on your opinion of the guy. Personally, I dig him and while he’s no Paul Verhoeven, he’ll do a good job. And yes, I really mean that. LIVE FREE and UNDERWORLD were both solid action pics that had problems that existed on the script level, not the film level.

SALT is a big summer thriller that really, REALLY wants to be the next BOURNE franchise and nearly succeeds in doing so until a completely brain-dead third act derails the entire film. Fortunately, the movie is entertaining enough to warrant a big screen viewing and star Angelina Jolie does her absolute best with the material at hand, so all is not lost.
