Film Bites: The Official Trailer For PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 Has Arrived!
Behold the scary-as-hell official trailer for PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3! Flick looks fantastic. Impressed that Paramount might actually pull off a hat trick with this franchise. Definitely a “see it on the first day with a packed house” ticket purchase. Judging from this trailer, this flick might end up being the scariest film of the entire year! Yay for hyperbole!
However, I almost hope that you DON’T watch the following video. Yeah, you read that right: Don’t watch it. Just know it exists and move along.
Why? Because it seems to spoil a good bit of the movie. Can’t be sure because I obviously haven’t seen the film, but it does feel spoiler heavy. Like maybe a few too many of the scares are in it. I kinda wish I hadn’t watched it. Gonna spend the next month forgetting it so I can go in fresh to this one like I did with the first two installments.

John Singleton Teases ABDUCTION 2
Despite the fact that ABDUCTION doesn’t open till Friday and Taylor Lautner has yet to prove he’s bankable outside of the TWILIGHT franchise, director John Singleton seems confident that the film will be popular enough to spawn a sequel. More correctly, Singleton is heavily implying that he’s already been tapped for it and that a script may or may not have already been written. Madness!
Well…not really if you think about it. Studios seem to be thinking ahead with everything these days (just look at what Dreamworks is doing with REAL STEEL). Shouldn’t come as a surprise that ABDUCTION has been set up as a potential BOURNE-level moneymaker for everybody’s favorite lycanthrope and Lionsgate. Wouldn’t shock me a bit to hear word that there’s a trilogy in the works.

Sienna Guillory Set To Return As Jill Valentine In RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION
Remember the rumor about a month back that said Sienna Guillory, who played fan-favorite Jill Valentine in RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE and reprised the role for a post-credits AFTERLIFE cameo, wouldn’t be returning for RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION? Well, now it would seem that Guillory is now going to appear in the flick. Confusing? Yes. Good news? Definitely.

Writer Hired For THE LAST EXORCISM 2 (?)
THR is reporting that writer Damien Chazelle has been tapped by Strike Entertainment to pen a sequel to the 2010 sleeper hit THE LAST EXORCISM. Details are scarce at the moment though I think it’s pretty safe to assume that none of the cast members from the first film will be returning. Flick didn’t really end on an open note, if you know what I mean. If you don’t….pretty much everybody died. Spoiler alert.

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
I have something to confess before getting to my review of RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES: I am totally 100% biased when it comes to this series. Love the original, love the sequels, love all the spin-offs, love the incredibly bad 70s TV series, love it all. I even have a soft spot in my heart for Tim Burton’s 2001 reboot.
Part of me secretly hoped when RISE was announced that it would explain what the hell the ending of that flick meant? How did Thade (Tim Roth) get to Earth and take it over? This is a question that will never be answered and we have RISE to thank for that. If I were a cruel critic, I’d dock a bullet just because we’ll never fully understand what the end of the first reboot of APES because of this reboot.
But I’m not cruel and I still love the franchise. PLANET OF THE APES is really the first true “geek” property that I latched onto in my younger years. Even predates STAR WARS to an extent. I loved the characters and vehicles in WARS long before I ever appreciated the actual movies. To my younger self, the movies were simply a gateway for me to access awesome action figures.

Kate Beckinsale Seems Blue In The UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING Teaser Trailer
I’m confused. I thought that UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING was supposed to be some half-assed attempt by Screen Gems to TWILIGHT-up the war between the vampires and lycans or something. Matter of fact, I know it was supposed to be. Click HERE and HERE for the proof. Well, pseudo-proof. Fact is, the official synopsis for this flick says Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is supposed to have a daughter and that the daughter the REAL focus of the film. There’s no daughter in the teaser trailer you’re about to check out.
There are, however, a lot of blue filters (so much blue), multiple shots of Selene doing her normal schtick (which is to say that she looks hot, wears a lot of form-fitting latex and kicks a ton of ass), absolutely no Michael (Was Scott Speedman too busy?) and a bunch of generic futuristic nonsense. Looks a little too much DAYBREAKERS meets PRIEST for my tastes.

Nic Cage Spits Bullets And Pisses Fire In GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE
The trailer for GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE has arrived and looks like Sony is definitely changing things up. I’m pretty sure that Nic Cage didn’t piss fire or spit bullets in the original flick (which I’ve seen multiple times but always seem to have a hard time remembering the specifics of) so I guess this sequel has that going for it. Other upgrades include CRANK directors Neveldine/Taylor being behind the camera. Definitely a step up from Sony letting one of Marvel’s darkest characters be brought to the big screen by the guy who directed SIMON BIRCH and wrote not one, but two, GRUMPY OLD MEN pics.
