THE AVENGERS
Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS is the most entertaining superhero movie of all-time.
That’s not hyperbole, people. That’s a motherf*cking fact. Accept it, live it, love it. You can slide THE DARK KNIGHT, X-MEN, SUPERMAN, UNBREAKABLE, BLADE, and even IRON MAN right down to a permanent spot at second place because I doubt highly there will ever be another superhero pic as entertaining as this one. Be sure to note I said “entertaining” and not “perfect” or “best“. There are very key differences between the three words.
THE AVENGERS is not a perfect movie by any means. Perfectly entertaining? Yes. But perfect? Not quite. It’s close but a couple of the scenes run a little too hot with exposition for my taste (Thor and Loki’s first scene together will make absolutely no sense to anyone who hasn’t seen THOR) and there a couple of glaring plot holes (I thought Loki had already possessed Erik Selvig). Those quibbles keep it from being perfect TECHNICALLY but don‘t prevent it from being perfect AESTHETICALLY.
And it certainly isn’t the “best” superhero movie ever because the best would have to feature a complete origin followed by section where the hero learns how to be a hero followed by a big finale where he/she battles a supervillain who’s origin mirrored the hero’s and …well, that kinda happens here and kinda doesn’t. You get the origin of The Avengers but absolutely no background about the heroes themselves (save for a minor flashback to Captain America’s WWII days). You have to have already seen IRON MAN, IRON MAN 2, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, THOR, and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER to fully appreciate what THE AVENGERS. So “best” is not the word I would use to describe this flick.
Entertaining, however, is a word I‘d definitely use. And frequently. THE AVENGERS is, without a doubt, the most entertaining superhero movie I’ve ever seen.

Sam Jackson Talks S.H.I.E.L.D Spin-Off; Inadvertently Drops AVENGERS Bombshell
Ever read something you immediately wish you hadn’t read after you read it but now that you’ve read it and run a movie geek site you kinda have to post it for those who might want to read it but will probably feel as bad as you did after they do? Yeah. That’s about to happen, people. To you, not me. First part already happened to me when I read between the lines of what you’re about to read. Second part is going to happen to you when you realize that Samuel L. Jackson may have just inadvertently spoiled a major moment in THE AVENGERS. Suffice to say, SPOILER ALERT!!!

Film Bites: Tony Stark Confronts Loki In New Clip From Marvel’s THE AVENGERS
MTV has a new peek at THE AVENGERS, due out May 4, in which Tony Stark / Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) gives the 411 to supervillain Loki (Tom Hiddleston) about who he‘ll be facing if he decides to go ahead with his plans of world domination. It’s a small scene, just two guys casually chit-chatting in a swank Manhattan high-rise, but one loaded with insane amounts of awesomeness (Loki’s grin as Stark rambles off quip-laden mini-descriptors of each team member is priceless) and geeky fan service (love Stark‘s Black Sabbath t-shirt and the reference to the original AVENGERS comic tagline “Earth‘s Mightiest Heroes“). Marvel Unveils Ten New Character Wallpapers For THE AVENGERS!
Hey look, ten new wallpapers for THE AVENGERS! Let’s appreciate the awesomeness on display here and casually ignore the fact that all of these lovely pics emerged from some tie-in website using the team to promote the Wyndham family of resorts and hotels.
Really?!? I don’t think anyone is going to buy that Tony Stark, millionaire playboy philanthropist, would actually stay at a Days Inn. He might buy the entire chain, order it to be demolished and then build a better hotel chain where it stood …but he’d never stay there. That’s a point of fact, people. Recognize, accept and enjoy the pics.

Three New Banners For THE AVENGERS!
Another week, another set of character posters for Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS. This new set (which are basically text-less rehashes of the character banners that hit a couple weeks back) come to you courtesy of CBM. Click on the pic to check them out…
ScarJo Serious Face? Must Be Time For Some New AVENGERS Character Posters
Ever notice how Scarlett Johansson holds her head down in the promos for THE AVENGERS to look badass but holds her head up to look uber-sexy? Head down, badass. Head up, sexy. Head down, badass! Head up, sexy! Not that she isn’t sexy as Black Widow. She is. We all know this. But that head thing kinda cracks me up.
After the jump are six new character posters for THE AVENGERS. You’ll note ScarJo has her head down (no pun intended) in two of them. Guess that means she’s ready to kick ass and take names. Yay!

Film Bites: It’s An AVENGERS Mega-Post!
THE AVENGERS. I think it’s safe to say agree that damn near everybody is excited to see it. Fanboys and non-fanboys alike seem to be agreement that it will be THE film to beat this summer till THE DARK KNIGHT RISES rolls along and steals its thunder. This appears to be one of those rare comic book movies (like the first IRON MAN or THE DARK KNIGHT) that will cross all boundaries and age demographics in a journey to box office glory. Hell, even my grandma (who, as far I know, has never seen IRON MAN, THOR or any of the other Marvel Studios pics) mentioned it in passing the other day and how she’s psyched. That’s some serious cross-generational appeal there, folks.
Which leads to me to the videos and pics after the jump. These have been popping up left and right on the internet over the last few days and rather than posting them all individually or spacing them out, I’ve opted to lump them all into a single mega-sized AVENGERS post. I’m sure you won’t mind because if you do that’s not really going to change my mind about doing this. Sorry.
