Bruce Boxleitner Says TRON 3 Is A Go
The following is not an official announcement. Hell, it’s barely an announcement. This is a fanboy hitting Bruce Boxleitner (TRON!!!) with a couple of questions about TRON 3 at Disney’s D23 expo. Boxleitner, being an pro who is always hopeful that the most culturally-relevant project he was involved in will continue in some way or another, answers these questions and then confirms that TRON 3 is happening. Basically announces that it will be in theaters 2013. I think I just I wet my pants.

Disney Hires EIGHT BELOW Scribe For TRON 3
Despite not being completely sold on the idea that another TRON pic is a viable investment (LEGACY made 400mil worldwide off a rumored 170mil budget), Disney has tapped screenwriter David DiGillo (EIGHT BELOW) to pen a sequel script. No word yet on whether LEGACY helmer Joseph Kosinski (currently working on OBLIVION over at Universal) will return or whether writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis (busy tinkering with McG’s OUIJA pic) will co-write the script with DiGillo. All that is known at this point is that a relatively unknown writer has been brought in by Disney to write a sequel to TRON: LEGACY.
This is a good and a bad thing. What is good is that another TRON sequel is in the works. What’s not-so-good (pretty much bad) is that word has it that Disney is waiting to see how well TRON: UPRISING (the animated series set to premiere on Disney XD later this summer) does before truly giving the sequel the green light.

Massive TRON LEGACY Blu-Ray Details!
Coming Soon has a possible sneak peek at the upcoming TRON LEGACY Blu-Ray release and, holy hell, that’s a lot of TRON. Don’t believe me? Just take a look at the pic below and tell me that isn’t massive. On top of a sweet identity disc storage case (with glowing blue lights, no less), you get the following:
- A 3D Blu copy of LEGACY
- A standard Blu Copy of LEGACY
- A DVD copy of LEGACY
- A digital copy of LEGACY (Does anyone really use these?)
- A Blu copy of the original TRON (which, as of yet, still has no standalone Blu release date)
There is a slightly cheaper Blu edition coming out that loses the identity disc case but retains all of the actual discs. And there will be an edition that loses the Blu copy of the original TRON and one that loses both the original TRON and the 3D Blu of LEGACY. But honestly, that identity disc is too damn cool to pass up. I know I’ll be pre-ordering this bad boy once it pops up on Amazon.

Is Disney Gearing Up To Announce TRON 3?
Like it or not, TRON LEGACY is a hit. It has been in wide release for a little under a month now and has grossed almost 300mil worldwide. That’s off a budget of 170mil. And not only has the flick done well at the box office, but the sales from the toys based on the film have been pretty amazing (no official numbers yet, but word is that LEGACY was the toy line to beat last Christmas). In other words, Disney is happy and their expensive bet that audiences would want to see a sequel to a movie that underperformed 28 years ago actually paid off.
So it is really any surprise that an official announcement announcing TRON 3 (or TRON LEGACY 2?) is imminent? I kinda figured it was a no-brainer at this point, but some sources have had their doubts that Disney is truly happy with the LEGACY numbers.
AICN is not one of those sources. They’ve been supportive of LEGACY since day one and Harry Knowles, who is usually in the know about geek properties such as this, has received word from one of his industry insiders that Disney is very close to announcing a third installment. Considering LEGACY was my favorite movie of last year, you’ll understand if I am a little weepy typing that last sentence. No kidding. Real tears. Hold on a sec…

Disney To Bring Older Animated Classics To 3D Blu-Ray Alongside Newer Releases
With the popularity of 3D televisions growing day by day, the studios have shocking been slow to adapt to the new format. Oh sure, there’s a few 3D Blu-Rays floating around out there, but not as many as you would think. I’d wager to guess that there are maybe 60 actual true blue 3D flicks floating around at your local Best Buy right now and most of them are IMAX documentaries rather than movies.
Thankfully, Disney seems to be stepping up to the plate to rectify that. A recent announcement has not only confirmed that they will be releasing their current crop of theatrical 3D movies (that would be TANGLED and TRON LEGACY) to 3D Blu-Ray date-and-day with the standard release, but that they will also be converting a good deal of their older animated catalog films as well. Already in the can are BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (you might remember that Disney announced the 3D conversion of this one a few years back ) and THE LION KING.

Adamantium Bullet’s 20 Favorite Movies Of 2010
I’m not a fan of writing lists. I love reading lists, stuff like THE BEST MOVIES OF 2010 and the TOP TEN FILMS TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN 2011. But when it comes to writing them, I end up getting a headache.
The main problem I have is that I’ve not seen all the movies that came out this year, so writing a BEST MOVIES OF 2010 list would be incomplete if I wrote it because I haven’t seen all the movies that came out in 2010. I didn’t see THE TOWN, haven’t had a chance to see TRUE GRIT or BEST WORST MOVIE, never bothered checking out SHUTTER ISLAND, BLACK SWAN or NEVER LET ME GO and I basically avoided TOY STORY 3 and HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. And that’s just the big films that I missed. There’s dozens of smaller ones that I’ve been meaning to watch but just haven’t gotten around to.
Thing is, this is the end of the year and this is also the slowest news week of the year. That means that a list (two of them to be exact, one for the good and one for the bad) must be written and it must be written by me…because I’m the law around these parts. So, instead of doing some half-assed BEST OF list, I’m going to do list of my favorite movies of 2010. A list that represents the best of what I got around to seeing and what I really enjoyed this year. And after this list, I’ll post one that represents the absolute shit that I’ve seen this year, but more on that in a bit.

TRON LEGACY
Honestly, this is probably going to be the most one-sided, biased review I’ve ever written. This is one of those times that I wish I could just drop a four word review and call it a day, because that’s really all I have to say on the matter. Yeah, I’ll drone on for a bit about plot, acting, special effects and all that jazz, but it really boils down to four simple words…
I love TRON LEGACY.
I knew when this flick was announced that I would love it. I knew when the first trailer hit and the early promo images flooded the net that I would love it. I knew as it grew closer and closer to the release date that I would love it. And I knew going into the theater that I would love it. There was never a moment since this movie’s conception that I honestly didn’t love it.
And guess what? When the end credits rolled and my heart crept back into my chest, I knew that I really loved this flick. Is it wrong to love a movie? I mean, I didn’t just like TRON LEGACY, I loved it. Every single minute, every single visual, damn near every single aspect of this film, my fanboy heart loved it all. Call it biased, call it fanboy appreciation, call it a continuation of the love for this franchise that I’ve sported since 1982, call it whatever you will but this flick is my absolute favorite movie of 2010. No doubt about it.

TRON Tuesday: Playboy Enters The Grid And Disney Gets The Lawyers On The Phone (NSFW)
The following is a Playboy pictorial featuring two lovely ladies decked out in TRON LEGACY gear. I’ll allow to process for a second and then you can come back to reality.
One has to wonder how the hell a Tron pictorial in Playboy ever happened? I mean, TRON LEGACY is a Disney flick! Playboy and Disney? I can’t figure out if this is sacrilege or genius.
Granted, this is far from an official TRON spread. There’s no Olivia Wilde or Beau Garrett on display here and the actual references to the movie are sidelined to a few brief paragraphs at the beginning that simply acknowledge that the movie does exist. But one does have to wonder how this happened? Did Disney give the okay for this? Considering the light cycle is used here and that the two gals are obviously wearing Tron couture, I imagine that somebody at the Mouse House knew this was coming.

Tron Tuesday: THE OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR DAFT PUNK’S “REREZZED”
A few weeks back (actually, its been about two months) a music video for “Derezzed”, one of the cuts from the TRON LEGACY score by Daft Punk, popped up online. While cool, the video was basically a trailer for the movie that happened to feature a brief cameo from the band.
Feeling that “Derezzed” hasn’t quite gotten enough airplay, Daft Punk has put out a new video for the song over on MTV and, well, it blows that previous video right out of the water. This isn’t some collection of clips, but rather an actual video that combines the visuals of the original TRON, LEGACY, Olivia Wilde, light cycles than turn into digital f**king horses, jousting and a whole ton of fanboy goodness. Honestly, if this doesn’t give you a hardcore geekgasm, I don’t know what will.
